About Veronica Borham

Veronica is a highly qualified and skilled Psychologist, Registered Art and Play Clinician, and Counsellor. She has a particular interest in children, relationships, bereavement and disabilities. 

Veronica's formal qualifications include Vocational Graduate Diploma in Art and Play Applications in Therapy, Master of Health Management, Bachelors of Social Science (Psychology & Sociology) and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology. Veronica is an Associate member of the Australian Psychological Society. 

Veronica is particularly excited about her programs working with children building more confident kids and working with people in general where she may use art, play, image cards and symbols as powerful catalysts and as a means to help people express themselves. Veronica is a provider of services for 'Helping Children with Autism' (click here for more information on this initiative) and the 'Better Start for Children with a Disability' (click here for more information on this initiative) funded by the Department of Social Services (January 2014) 

 

Veronica is accredited in and facilitates the Group Triple P Program and Resourceful Adolescent Program for Parents.

Veronica worked at Learning Links Peakhurst for five years in their Family Services program as a Family Counsellor initially in a Case Management Program and later as a Group Work Co-ordinator.  In these roles she supported families with a child (aged 0-18) with a disability  and helped to link them with services, following identification of their goals and needs. She co- facilitated groups for children to enhance their self-esteem (Confident Kids); to improve social skills (Getting along Together); to decrease their anxiety (Cool Kids). Veronica co-faciliated groups  for adults to improve their parenting skills (Triple P); to support parents of children with ADHD (SUPA); to support parents of children with autism (PECA); and a telephone support group for dads of children with autism (DECA)

Veronica, a volunteer with HOME Hospice (for ten years) supported families caring for someone with a terminal illness who had elected to die at home. In this role Veronica provided emotional support to family members while linking them with services that they required. 

Veronica also volunteered in a marriage in crisis program called Retrouvaille. In this program she coordinated the post weekend program and with Barry continues to offer a support group to couples who have previously completed the program. 

Veronica has presented on topics such as: 'The impact of autism on siblings'; 'The impact of diagnosis on families'; & 'When to tell a child of their diagnosis' and ‘Self care for carers’

When working with groups, couples or individuals Veronica enjoys working with Symbol, Sand Play and Art and Play Therapy. Veronica has prepared an article that answers a number of questions about Child Centrered Play Therapy and how it is used. She also uses a variety of modalities that include Solution Focused Therapy, Emotional Release Therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Veronica has a particular interest in working with people on:

  • Grief and Loss
  • Death and Dying
  • Carers
  • Disabilities 
  • Relationship Issues
  • Couple Issues
  • Sexuality
  • Autism 

Veronica sees children, adolescents, individuals and couples. Health Fund and Medicare rebates may apply.(see note below in Fees)

Veronica is accredited in Group Triple P; Resourceful Adolescent Program for Parents (RAP-P) & Cool Kids.

Veronica has facilitated multiple groups that have included:

Group work with adults: 

  • Group Triple P (Positive Parenting Program); 
  • PECA/DECA (Parenting experiences of children with Autism); 
  • SUPA (Supporting Parents of children with ADHD) 

Group work with children: 

  • SIBS (Sibling support group for children who have a brother or sister with a disability); 
  • SIBS days (Sibling outings)
  • Confident Kids (Self Esteem group); 
  • Cool Kids (Anxiety program); 
  •  Getting Along Together (Social Skills)

Working in an ethical manner is important to me. As such I adhere strictly to the Australian Psychological Society Charter of Client Rights

    


Fees:

Veronica is a psychologist and her clients may be able to claim a rebate from their health fund depending on the fund they belong to.

Alternatively, the Government has acknowledged that people may suffer from stress/ anxiety/ depression or other conditions that may affect their emotional well-being. You may want to consider speaking with your GP if you believe your situation is impacting on your wellbeing. If the GP agrees then with a referral under the 'mental health care plan' you would be eligible for a rebate of $84.80 per session. Veronica's fee for couples is $180.00; adolescents and adult individuals are charged at $140.00. Children are $150.00 per session. Read more about rebates
